our hotel is right at earl's court tube so we didn't have to take a taxi from the airport. as we walked out of the station i spotted a bunch of familiar fast food chains - burger king, subway, mcdonald's.. blah. funny thing about mcdonald's is their "oriental" theme. they even have eggrolls!
tall soy lattes cost 2.40 pounds. super sad, but it will help with the addiction. everything is so expensive.
the happiest thing about our location is (well 2 things) 1. it is a minute away from simply foods, marks & spencer's food store which has really cutely packaged foods and the best muffins ever! double chocolate and triple berry.. so nostalgic of oxford days.
and 2. we're near this street of international shops, so there are like filipino supermarkets, lebanese supermarkets and bakeries, chinese and thai restaurants, etc. it's very interesting.
it's been an exhausting day. around 4 we headed out to covent gardens, one of my favorite places in london. i dunno why. the shopping's not amazing and it's always loud and crowded... but i think that's what i like about it. the atmosphere and just happy people.
then we wandered to strand st... then to trafalgar square.
stumbled into the national gallery but it was closing so maybe later when i figure out what i want to see there i can go back. then we walked towards big ben.. and got distracted by the golden jubilees bridge that took us across the thames. gorgeous view of big ben/parliament + london eye.
and then we just walked along south bank for a realllly long time until we got to the tate modern/millenium bridge/globe theatre.
south bank was really crowded today... lots of performances and music. the energy was really cool and a lot of people were having drinks and afternoon tea along the thames. the weather let up too, so it was fairly sunny and warm =) special!
oo we got some pints of asahi beer along our walk and remind me to never walk/drink at the same time. it kept spilling on my shoes and all over my face and i was already so jetlagged that it was a horrible combination! save the drinking for sitting.
then.. we tubed over to bond street, got off at oxford/bond, and ate on james street at some turkish place called grand bazaar. it was good but hella expensive. i hate the pound. i hate the dollar!! i had this "pide" pizza thing.. basically a pizza on a pita, with turkish sausage, cheese, egg, and bell peppers. for 9 pounds...the agony!
tomorrow we're going to greenwich to go to the national observatory. i think we're going by boat, so we get to cruise the thames. my favorite, river cruises! time to sleep.
