a picture dilemma

our generation is at the cusp of a transition, from capturing images with traditional photos to digital pictures. as i excitedly flip through old photo albums my relatives keep, containing pictures of not only my baby days but of theirs, i wonder what the equivalent will be to this in the future. will children sit in front of a screen for hours, sifting through their parents' old vacation photos, now tenfold in number due to the ease of photography, the extra angles taken at each landmark to ensure perfection? or will there be some sort of sifting process somewhere along the way? but doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of having unlimited capacity to take pictures, so you don't have to delete if you don't want to, and have as many photos as you want? the value of pictures may decrease and i find that a shame, but honestly, our children and their children (assuming digital photography is going to be around) aren't going to be interested in the 500 pictures i've taken of one single trip to somewhere they've never been, of a delicious meal they didn't eat, and of people they'll never know. actually no one in their right mind would be interested except for the photographer. sigh. and so it is.
